What is the nature of welding?
Welding is a method of joining two separated solids by heating or pressurizing, or by heating and pressurizing. The essence of welding is metallurgical combination, that is to say, the two workpieces are combined by the combination force between atoms, and the crystal structure of the connecting part of the two workpieces is the same as that of the workpieces (for the welding of the same material).
What are the characteristics of welding compared with other connection methods?
Compared with mechanical connection method, welding has the following characteristics.
1. Welding can directly connect all parts and components without other accessories, and the strength of welding joint is generally the same as that of base metal. Therefore, the welding product is light in weight, low in cost, beautiful in appearance, and each node of welding structure can connect more components;
2. The welding joint is realized by the combination force between atoms. It has good uniformity, integrity and large rigidity. It does not produce large deformation under the action of external force like mechanical connection.
3. The welding structure has good air tightness and water tightness, such as pressure vessel, boiler drum, submarine, etc., which cannot be realized by other connection methods.
What are the characteristics of welding compared with casting and plastic forming?
Compared with casting forming and plastic forming, welding has the following characteristics.
1. Welding can make the distribution of materials in metal structure more reasonable. Different types of metal materials, different shapes and sizes of materials can be connected to a metal component, such as weldable copper aluminum, aluminum steel, ceramic metal and other components.
2. Welding can decompose large-scale components with complex structure into many small parts for processing separately, and then weld these parts together, which simplifies the processing technology of metal structure and shortens the processing cycle.
3. Welding is a kind of “flexible” machining tool, which is suitable for both mass production and small batch production.
How are welding methods classified?
During welding, some physical or chemical means shall be used to overcome the surface roughness and remove the pollutants such as oxides and oil stains, so as to make the atoms on the connecting surface of two workpieces close to the distance between the lattice space through certain or chemical means and the physical and chemical changes of workpieces. The welding method is classified according to the physical and chemical changes in the welding process. Generally divided into three categories: fusion welding, pressure welding and brazing.
